Owasso History | In 1897 once the word got out that the Railroad was going to make Owasso a division point, forward thinking settlers built places for retail, services and even a post office. In most small towns in most of the United States, Once a post office or the railroad or Gold came around, a city was not far behind. In 1900 Mr. Ballard and Mr. Smith helped raise funds to build a school house and a church. Two staples for every town across the plains and the rest is history. 1904 saw the first bank opening and when the Sooner state became a part of the Union in 1907 Owasso became even more popular.
The construction of the Tulsa International Airport is what brought on a huge growth spurt to Owasso. When a few men decided Tulsa should get on board with the wave of the future, they formed the Tulsa Airport Corporation and sign a "Stud Note" to support the construction of the landing strips and make shift buildings for passengers and administration. By 1930 the airport was such a huge success workers were brought in to build sturdy brick buildings.
