Today in Owasso Oklahoma | Owasso Public Schools is one of Oklahoma's finest the percentage of high school graduates is way above the state average.  Grades 9 & 10 are thru Owasso Mid High School and 11 and 12 are at Owasso High School. Together they are one of the largest high schools in the state and have above average graduate and assessment testing. There are seven local elementary schools. There is a separate school for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders as well.  The Owasso schools support over 8,500 students, of which half of those students are able to ride the bus.  If your child lives over 1.5 miles from school Owasso has a great website resource to find out times of buses and schools pick up sites.

The median price for Owasso homes, as of August 2007 is about $209,000 or $89.99 per sq ft. This is up about 6% from August 2006.  However you can find 19 acres of land with a 2002 custom home, built  with over 4,000 sq ft of living space for just around $975,000. Owasso Public Schools support over 8,500 students served by 14 school sites.

Population density in the city is about 2,272. For those of you unsure what Population Density is, it is the amount of people per square mile. Now that does'nt´t sound very impressive on its own.  But when you compare it to Manhattan, New York at 26,751 you can see you have quite a bit of room to breath here in Owasso Oklahoma. As far as the weather is concerned, Owasso sees about 8 inches of snowfall per year and about 37 inches of rain. The coldest month is January with temps in the high 40´s plus a few 30's for that few inches of snow and summer months get into the 80´s. Owasso History | In 1897 once the word got out that the Railroad was going to make Owasso a division point, forward thinking settlers built places for retail, services and even a post office. In most small towns in most of the United States, Once a post office or the railroad or Gold came around, a city was not far behind.  In 1900 Mr. Ballard and Mr. Smith helped raise funds to build a school house and a church. Two staples for every town across the plains and the rest is history. 1904 saw the first bank opening and when the Sooner state became a part of the Union in 1907 Owasso became even more popular.

The construction of the Tulsa International Airport is what brought on a huge growth spurt to Owasso.  When a few men decided Tulsa should get on board with the wave of the future, they formed the Tulsa Airport Corporation and sign a "Stud Note" to support the construction of the landing strips and make shift buildings for passengers and administration.  By 1930 the airport was such a huge success workers were brought in to build sturdy brick buildings.
